Toddler time

Here are a few pointers to software for toddlers I find interesting. The idea of keeping a child entertained in a fashionable way and promoting interaction with personal computers amazes me. There are a bunch of commercial titles available, I know. Most of these I’ll be compiling are free software.

The Babbleback Machine – a program that continuously records sound from the PC microphone and plays that sound back after a delay.

BabySplat – a program that can be used to give the toddlers something to do when you step away from an unprotected computer. The kids can bang on the keyboard and see neat colorful shapes drawn on the screen, with matching sounds according to the random keypresses.

Well, I better start thinking about getting some drool protection for the keyboards…

Well, I found another software package in the spirit of BabySplat that is downright interesting. It is called Peanut Butter PC and the company behind it specializes in software to make computers easier for kids to use (and safer for grownups to leave them unsupervised). Pretty cool (at least from a parent’s perspective).
