The nice thing about the Mac on is if you are copying Applications it tells you which one is newer or older:

Copying newer application over a older one:

Copying old application over a newer one:

Gnome dialog boxes just s**k and are completely useless.
The kde dialog is by far the best one. And are even better for images.
but it's just IMHO.

le gnome and mac ones are the best

they simply tell there are already a file with the same name. the user can skip/stop or know it's normal and replace.

no need for "properties" because for most users, they don't care about file, cannot understand "0 bytes" or whatever.

if they know properties, they can see them in a file manager window. the main "properties" for most, very most of people is the Name. not size, type, date, or whatever.

--
you are not the most user, you prove that by knowing file have properties.

--
people are not stupid, the contrary. they have others skills, works and passions but they don't love intern arcane of computers , so the computer should assist them,

Yes, but not hurl people with "properties". The name is enough and a simple way to check the files before moving/copying.

--
in most cases, when people doesn't understand a dialogbox, they will simply close it or let it open and do something else.

I must agree with just about everything you say. Even the most simple and recurring interfaces (like the file overwrite prompt, or the login form) can and usually are implemented in a thousand different ways.

Where is the gap between the perceived simplicity of the problem and the complexity that the myriad of solutions suggests?
